The Small Business Diaries - Amy Cole Studio

The Small Business Diaries - Amy Cole Studio

Welcome to the first instalment of a new series here at Olive & Mabel!

The Small Business Diaries is a way for you to get to know a little more about the brands that we stock here on our website. Each brand is so unique, and hearing their origin stories, creative processes and just general business owner thoughts will definitely make you fall in love with their products even more.

So, we're kicking off this series with an interview with Amy from Amy Cole Studio. We have stocked some of Amy's products right from the very beginning, and we're so excited to expand our product offering from her very soon.

So, let's get into the interview shall we...

About Amy

I am a designer and illustrator from the UK who owns a small stationery business, works freelance as an illustrator for clients and work part time as a greetings card designer in house! So my diary is pretty busy but i LOVE what i do.

What inspired you to start your business?

I have always had passion for design since I was a kid and always wanted to have a creative job. I've had an Etsy shop since 2018, but it wasn't until 2020 that I really started the business and gave it my all to make it work. Having a lot of time to myself during the pandemic really inspired me to start what I always wanted, and my business was born. I have loved watching it grow from a small desk in the corner of my living room, to having my own studio space will all my stock.

Which collection or product is your personal favourite?

This is really tricky! I have had hundreds of products since opening, so picking a favourite is hard. I love my enamel pin! It is a product I don't think gets enough love, but I really love it! I love anything shinny haha!

What is your favourite product to design?

I do think my favourite to design is stickers, as I have so much fun with them by adding cool effects like holographic and glitter. But the product I get most excited about arriving is my washi tapes! They are so fun and exciting, I think they might be my favourite.

What is your best selling product?

My best seller is my Self Love Sticker Pack. It is one of my oldest designs that I launched back in 2020, but it has been my best seller. Closely followed by my You're My Boo Greetings card.

What product do you think deserves a lil extra love?

I mentioned that I think my enamel pin needs more love. But another product I love but doesn't get much love, is my Stationery Essential Kits! I love them, but they just weren't as popular as I'd wished. I think it I need to market it more as I haven't done a good job at this. I love the designed box it comes in and the products are so cute!

Do you have any exciting goals or plans for the future?

I want to be more present online. My goal this year is to be on camera more and maybe start a Patreon, but I haven't stuck to it yet haha! So hopefully I can get the confidence to be more present and start up a youtube or something.

Who are some of your favourite small businesses?

I have so so many that I love! But some of my favourites are,

-Tillie Rose Studio

- Olive & Mable
- Amy Frances
